page 5, the protagonist’s mention of “a bearded omniscient narrator from the nineteenth century” starting a 900-page book seems to me an allusion to Tolstoy and his Anna Karenina, which I haven’t read: Leo Tolstoy, (1828-1919, south/southeast of Moscow,) (April) 1877, Anna Karenina, 864 pages, begins: All happy families resemble one another, but each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.
